Question N/R or R/N?

I need some help to decide if i should be a N/R or a R/N.

Do they have the same energy and health? If not how much each one has.

I was thinking of choosing R/N because ranger has better armor and because necro doesn't have any soul reaping skills.

What do you think of primary attributes of each? Does soul reaping really make a difference?

Which one do you think it's better for PvP and PvE? And for solo?

Thx in advance

PS : Sorry for so much questions but i'm still a noob and since this is my last slot for a character i need to ponder well the decision

honestly, it does not make a difference there are good builds with both

EDIT - and there is no rule saying you have to use both professions, often people think they have to use both professions or else they will suck and so they end up making a build that makes them weaker than if they went all N or R

expertise is amazing, except it does not work with spells, hexes and enchantments. Try a pure interupt build with spinal shivers and marksmanship wager

i have a ranger necro, and my build always changes to what i am facing. normally i max out bloodmagic, so i can steal life etc.
but if im going trapping in UW, i loose all points from my necro side, and i max out ws.
so my build is wither high Ws or high Blood Magic,
(and always high marksman and expertise)

i havnt tried other things than blood magic, cauz i recently swtiched,
soon ill try getting some good curses in there aswell

All professions have the same base energy and health. Read the descriptions for the different professions including benefits of primary attribute and decide which is best for your style of play. Then just try it, learn it and have fun.

It all depends on what you are trying to make - archer? minion master? trapper? Figure out what you want then you'll know, or we can provide better advise.

Note that only the primary can use runes and head gear to increase attributes.

Soul Reaping doesn't need any skills to be an excellent attribute.

Ranger = 25 energy 3 pips regen.
Necro = 30 energy 4 pips regen.

i know is just that i have characters with all the others professions

What about PvE and Pvp? Which one is better? Or it's all the same and it just varies with different builds?

Personally, I think that there are better secondaries for a necro than ranger. I honestly don't know what ranger skills you would use as a N/R. Stances maybe? Or bring a pet so you always can get a corpse handy? As N/R, you don't have any skills in the expertise line, and you aren't using a bow (I hope!), so you lose marksmanship too, if you aren't bringing a pet, you lose 2/3 of beast mastery. That doesn't leave you with much to work with. If you're going necro, I think N/Me for heavier cursing, N/Mo for minion master or misc support, or N/W for tanking, are far better options.

R/N, strangely enough, is a bit more workable. The touch ranger PvP build is, in my opinion, one of the most intelligently designed builds there are, and is great for faction farming in arenas, or flag running, etc. in GvG. Other skills in curses/blood are also workable for ranger, or even just drop all the necro skills and go all-out ranger--rangers have a perfectly self-contained skillset--and expertise more than makes up for the fact that you don't have soul reaping.

I think if you have to choose between the two, take R/N. Ranger, in my opinion, makes a poor secondary for almost every class, with the notable exception of a handful of specific builds.

They are both REALLY good in PvP. Rangers are good because they are castor killers. If you have the right setup, you can take down a monk real easy. Specialty for ranger I think are the interrupts that they have. If you are fast enough and use Concussion shot then the rest of the spells are easy to interrupt if you brought all of your interupt skills. Necro's are pretty complicated build, but when you get the hang of it you can really hit an enemy that you are setup to kill. What really hurts the castors as a necro is the mana degen skills they have. I forgot their names but there are 2 of them and if you use both, you can disable the castor for a long time. For Soul Reaping, it depends on what kind of necro you are. I know when I'm a Minion Master (MM) it really helps because when you raise Bone Fiends they cost 25 energy. MM is REALLY good in PvE. If your good enough at keeping them alive your monk doesn't have to do much because they serve as a meatshield. Rangers are good too. They can put out pretty good damage but the best reason for brining them along is their degens. If you have poison spammer with Poison Arrow (Elite), you have put out more damage than you have to because you have degened everyone. Armor really wouldn't matter if you are talking PvE because as a castor you should try and stay back and if you do that you won't be needing the extra 50 armor. So it really boils down to what you think is cooler because they both have their ups and downs.

I believe you're thinking of malaise and wither. That's -4 pips of energy for about 20-30 seconds I believe. Very, very, annoying if you can't get it treated right away.

The problem here, is he's wondering specifically about N/R versus R/N (I'm guessing its his 3rd PvE character and he wants to use it to unlock skills, and already has, probably a W/Mo and E/Me). I just don't see N/R being a particularly good combination, at least compared to other secondaries that you could take.

Personally, it depends if you like playing a spell caster more or someone who shoots arrows.

PvP and PvE are different, you'll need different skills for the two and many believe that pve is easier, not that I can coment, I haven't really gotten into PvP yet.

I think i'm going for R/N ... thank you so much for all your help
